Frequently Asked Questions About the Teacher Credential Programs

How much is tuition?
Tuition for credential students is approximately $2400 per semester (subject to change) for California Residents. Refer to the online class schedule for additional information.

What is the length of the program?
We have both two- and three-semester basic programs in the multiple subject and single subject credential programs. A four-semester evening multiple subject program for daytime job-holders is also available. Special Education Credential Programs provide for great flexibility - full time or part time schedules are available.

When can I begin a basic credential program?
Our regular Multiple Subject and Single Subject three-semester (16 month) programs begin every fall and spring semester; the two-semester (9 month) Multiple Subject and Single Subject programs begin every fall semester. The four semester evening (16 month; includes summer) Mupltiple Subject program begins every springl semester. Special Education programs begin every fall and spring with summer coursework offerings.

Are there any prerequisites?
Depending on the program option, the following courses may be taken as pre or co-requisites: EDBM 170, EDS 100 A/B, HLSC 136, and KINS 172 (MS only). Occasionally, education courses taken at another college can be evaluated for substitution after admission to the program.

When are applications available and due?
For Fall program starts, applications are available in December and due the first Monday in March. For Spring program starts, applications are available in July and due the first Monday in October.

How do I apply to Sacramento State for "graduate school admission" and how do I apply to the Teacher Preparation Program?
Two applications are required if you are a graduating senior or are not currently a continuing graduate student at Sacramento State.

  1. The application for graduate school admission must be submitted online at www.csumentor.edu. Print out and save the receipt verifying you have paid for and submitted the graduate admission application.
  2. The application for the Teacher Preparation Program can be downloaded, picked up in the Teacher Preparation Program Office (Eureka Hall 216), or mailed if you cannot print the application from our website, by calling (916) 278-6403.

Can I come in and have an advisor explain everything?
After you have read the Admissions Guide (pdf) and attended an information session, please contact the Teacher Preparation Program Office if you have additional questions.

Can you tell me a little about what I would be doing in the Teacher Preparation Program?
Each semester you will have both credential coursework and public school experiences. In a nutshell, your program will be busy and intense, especially in the two semester program.

What internships are available?
Depending on school districts' needs, internship teaching positions may be available. The intern holds a full or part-time teaching position while completing coursework. Currently, most internship positions are in either special education or single subject areas such as mathematics, English or Spanish (other subject matter areas may be available). At this time, only the Special Education and Teacher Education Departments may offer internships.
