Summer Classes: 4th & 5th Grade Students

Beginning Summer 2009, ATS is inaugurating a new program for students in 4th and 5th grades. Students can gain their first experience in an ATS-style class as they discover new approaches to traditional topics and explore enrichment opportunities in new subject areas.

Classes are scheduled in 3 one-week sessions and will be a total of 12.5 hours for the week. Morning and afternoon classes are available.

Session 1 June 15 to June 19
Session 2 July 20 to July 24
Session 3 August 3 to August 7

  • Active Learning and Social Skills
  • An Adventure in Poetry
  • Beginning Conversational Spanish
  • Beginning Drawing: Cartoons and Comic Strips
  • Creative Writing: Create Original Stories with Fairytales Elements
  • Creativitiy and Critical Thinking
  • Engineering and Architectural Design
  • Green Science: Renewable Energy
  • Hands-on Algebra Adventures
  • Hands-on Math: Games and Puzzles
  • Introduction to Choreography and Dance
  • Introduction to Comedy, Public Speaking and Acting
  • Public Speaking, Storytelling and Improv
  • Secret Science
  • Study Skills for Success
  • Sudden Fiction

Cost Overview
ATS is a nonprofit, self-supporting program which receives no federal or state funding. Course fees for the 2009 4/5 Program will be $233 per class. Financial aid is available.

Supervision
ATS provides supervision during class time only. ATS staff do not escort students to and from class. It is the responsibility of parents to drop their students off at the classroom and pick them up at the end of the class period. For student safety and security, parents should walk their students to class and must sign in at the start of class and sign out at the end of class.

Getting Involved in the
4/5 Program

  1. Be a current 4th or 5th grader (as of January 1)
  2. Take the Qualifying Exam: Intermediate Level
  3. Use your test scores to determine which classes best match your abilities
