Program Leader
Dr. Peter Baird, Associate Professor in Bilingual/Multicultural Education, is a professor, author, musician and former bilingual teacher who was raised in Mexico. He led Travel Study groups to Cuernavaca, Mexico in 2007 & 2008.
Continuing Education
CSUS Continuation Education is the sponsor of this program, in conjunction with the Bilingual/Multicultural Education Department (BMED). Participants do not have to be registered as CSUS students, but will still earn 3 undergraduate or graduate semester units.

Credit Expectations
You will have one book to read before you arrive in Mexico, will attend language classes and seminars, and will complete a written reflection about your travel study experience for Prof. Baird.
Itinerary

Friday, July 10: Independent travel day to Oaxaca via Mexico City, then taxi to school to meet Dr. Baird and host families. Participants are encouraged to travel with a partner from the group.

Saturday, July 11: First meal with families and guided tour of Monte Alban. Background provided on the Guelaguetza celebration throughout the town for the next two weeks, especially on the weekends.

Sunday, July 12: Orientation at the Instituto Cultural Oaxaca with Director Lucero Topete, including a short test to determine you language level (beginner to advanced), then a short walkabout tour of Oaxaca with Dr. Baird

Monday, July 13: Classes begin M-F from 9-1 for the next two weeks, with optional workshops, cultural activities each afternoon. Dr. Baird will have seminars several times a week and daily office hours.

Sat-Sun, July 18-19: The exciting Guelaguetza will be going on in Oaxaca City. You may arrange for tours to local villages, markets and arqueological sites (prices not included). Your family home-stay and meals continue.

Saturday, July 25: Culminating fiesta & farewell dinner hosted by Dr. Baird at the Instituto.

Sunday, July 26: Travel day from Oaxaca to DF, then air home. Individuals may choose to continue independently at the Instituto and their family home-stay for more or more weeks (costs not included in this program).
